Controversial 'bikini-bar' near the Leidseplein. In this traditionally brash area the Zebra Lounge was the first bar in Amsterdam to stage pole dancers, as part of their 'sophisticated night entertainment'. City council however disagreed on 'sophisticated' and closed down the Lounge. This has sparked a fiery debate on the political correctness of Amsterdam nightlife; fear is Amsterdam might loose out to more open-minded cities. In the meantime The Zebra Lounge has reopened, minus poles. Open daily.
